Texas enacted an appropriations bill, HB 1, on June 17. This bill includes a provision relating to the state’s HAI reporting system. Under the terms of the new law, reporting must be expanded to include information concerning infections that resulted in a patient’s death. The HAI provision can be found on page II-74 of the law.

The Guide to Infection Prevention for Outpatient Settings: Minimum Expectations for Safe Care outlines key infection prevention policies, procedures, and practices that should be in place in outpatient settings to prevent healthcare-associated infections. Due to the large number of healthcare facilities needing to enroll quickly in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), CDC has temporarily abbreviated the training requirements for enrolling and has created a new webpage to guide people through the training and enrolling process.
